美国Lee Academy高级中学(上海分校)12年级学生Daniel喜获加州艺术学院Offer，并授予72,000美金的高额奖学金。Daniel从9年级开始在我校就读，在这短短的4年时光，他飞速成长。以下Daniel将与我们分享他对艺术的热情、在ALAIS的感受以及对未来的期许。

Daniel, a grade 12 ALAIS student, recently won a $72,000 scholarship to attend California College of the Arts. Daniel has studied at ALAIS since grade 9 and demonstrated significant growth as a student, as a young man, and as an artist during his time at ALAIS. Below, he reflects on his passion for arts, his experience at ALAIS, and his goals for the future.

当我还是个2岁孩子时，我开始了我的创作之路，我把家里所有可以画的墙都涂满了。爸爸妈妈对于墙上的画作感到头疼，因为要清理的东西很多，但是他们都舍不得把我在墙上画的作品擦掉。一开始，我对机械事物异常感兴趣，所以我只画汽车和飞机，渐渐地我开始尝试绘制科幻小说里的宇宙飞船和机器人。有一次，我妈妈带我去上钢琴课，但一学期下来，我是班级里唯一不会弹钢琴的孩子，我的琴谱上被我画的音符填满了，不得不说，我的音符的的确确是班级里画得的!

I started painting when I was about two years old. I started with painting all of the walls at home. My parents didn’t like this because it was a lot to clean up, but they didn’t want to remove my first artwork from the walls. In the beginning, I was mostly interested in the art of mechanical things, so I drew only cars and planes. Then I began drawing science fiction spaceships and robots. At one point, my parents made me take piano lessons. At the end of one semester, since I was much more interested in art, I was the only student who could not play the piano. All I did was draw notes on the music staff, but they were always the best in the class.

随着我年龄的增长，我在艺术表达方面更加成熟。我学着使用艺术媒介来讲述我的故事或者展示我的设计。现在，我能够使用数字设计、雕塑、油画、漫画、素描等媒介来帮助我表达自我。

As I grew older and matured as an artist, I leaned more and more artistic mediums, anything that could be used to tell my stories or show my designs. Now, I use digital design, sculpture, oil paintings, comics, and sketching, among other mediums, and I have confidence to use all of them skillfully.

当我在2016年进入ALAIS就读9年级时，我的英语能力比较低。印象极深的是在一次世界文化考试中，我明明知道答案，但由于英语能力的问题，就是没有办法很好地表达出来。万分幸运的是，当时的世界文化老师告诉我，在我不知道如何用英语表达自己的时候，可以把自己的想法画出来，这在另一方面也帮助了我的英语水平得到了很大的提高。从那时起，我发现在所有课程中，我都可以把自己的艺术能力灵活运用其中。

When I started at ALAIS in 2016-2017 (grade 9), my English skills were very poor. In my first World Cultures exam, I knew the answers but could not express them in English very well. My world culture teacher told me to paint what I can’t describe in English, and this helped me improve my English. From then on, I saw that I could flexibly use my artistic abilities to help me in all of my courses.

我很快意识到，ALAIS为艺术类的学生提供了相对较大的发展空间。在我们做AA作业的时候，各科老师允许我们艺术类学生将自己的艺术技能和创造力融入其中。在很多情况下，我们不需要花费时间分别在艺术课程和核心课程上，因为我们所有课程的老师，例如数学、文化历史、科学、文学等等老师都非常鼓励并欣赏我们在他们课程中加入艺术元素。

I quickly realized that ALAIS provided a relatively large development space for art students. I was allowed to use my art skills and creativity in authentic assessments (AAs) in many classes. In many cases, I did not necessarily need to divide my time between art and my core academic courses. Teachers in all of my classes encouraged and appreciated my art contributions in science, math, history, literature, and more.

在即将来临的大学时光以及大学毕业后，我的目标是通过我的想象力将幸福带到世界上的每一个角落。我没有拯救世界的超能力，但是我希望用我的创作来温暖这个世界，我想这也是一种超能力吧，我想成为这样的人!

In the future, in university and after university my goal is to bring happiness to the world through my imagination. I don’t have any superpowers to save the world from danger, but I can warm the world with the stories I tell. I guess this is a kind of superpower too, and that’s a kind of hero I want to be.

对于即将入学ALAIS的艺术生而言，我鼓励你们把艺术才华融入核心课程中以适应高中较大的学习压力。多任务处理是一种非常好的学习技能，因为这在未来大学学习中、工作中都可以应用到。明智合理地安排时间，当在英语表达碰到困难的时候，可以用画画来代替。慢慢来，尽力而为，利用每天的碎片时间与外教老师交谈，这可能比临时抱佛脚的参加补习班会有效很多。

To incoming art students at ALAIS I encourage you to adapt to the high pressure of study by learning to combine arts and core course. Multitasking is a good skill to learn for university, in a job, and in life. Manage your time wisely. If can’t write, start by drawing. Take your time and try your best. Practice your English. Talk to foreigners and practice your vocabulary is much more helpful than training by tests in a very rushed time.
