1、Earth System Science Grade 9

Matter and energy interact all around us every second of every day. These interactions affect the world around us in ways we can and cannot see.In this course, we will study the history of these interactions of matter and energy. We will also look at how these interactions of matter and energy affect the past, the present and the future of the people of our planet.

2、Biology, Grade 10, Year-long, 1 credit

Biology is a laboratory science course developed in accordance with national and main state standards. The course focuses on the study of organisms (living things) and explores the topics of modern biology. The five units covered in the course include the principles of cell biology, the principles of genetics, the principles of evolution, the principles of ecology and an introduction to diversity. Some of the topics studied include cell structure and function, cell replication, photosynthesis, cell respiration, Mendel's principles, replication, transcription, protein synthesis, the environment and ecosystems, the theory of evolution and the study of taxonomy. Laboratory work and projects provide a means of assessing student progress in learning over the year.

3、AP Biology *, Grades 10-12, Year-long, 1 credit, Prerequisite: Biology

This course is designed to teach students the vital connection between biological principles and the processes of science, and to provide students with the solid conceptual foundation necessary to understand the expanding role of biology in modern life. It is also designed to aid students in developing their critical thinking skills so that they will be able to make well informed decisions about their health and the health of the environment. Evolutionary themes are emphasized throughout the course so that students understand that these themes unify all of biological study. Students completing this course will be eligible to take the AP exam.

4、Chemistry *, Grades 10-12, Year-long, 1 credit, Prerequisite: Biology

Chemistry is the study of matter, including its composition, structure, and behavior. Chemistry is an inquiry-based laboratory course that prepares students for further studies in the sciences and develops their problem solving skills. Chemical reactions, basic problems in chemistry and equations are studied in depth.

5、AP Chemistry *, Grades 11-12, Year-long, 1 credit, Prerequisite: Chemistry

This is a second-year college level course designed to aid in meeting the minimum requirement for the AP exam. AP Chemistry is equivalent to an introductory college level chemistry class. Students taking this course should have already successfully completed a year of laboratory chemistry. AP Chemistry requires a serious commitment from students. You should be prepared to devote a significant amount of time to reading a college level text book, working on problem sets, writing lab reports, and working on projects outside of class. This class will be conducted primarily through laboratory experiments and problem solving activities, reinforced with lecture and discussion. We will also complete long-term projects throughout the year.

6、Physics *, Grades 11, Year-long, 1 credit

This course is intended to give students experience with the fundamentals of physics, including: motion in one and two dimensions, forces (Newton's Laws of Motion), rotational and periodic motion, gravitation, work, energy, and power, waves, sound, and light, and electricity and magnetism. This is an inquiry, lab-based course. Laboratory experiments account for the greatest percentage of the student's grade and serve as either formative or summative assessments in each unit. All labs are graded using the attached lab report guide and rubric. In most labs, students are given only a problem and they must then develop their own procedures.

7、AP Physics B *, Grades 11-12, Year-long, 1 credit, Prerequisite: Physics and Pre-Calculus

The goal of AP Physics B is to provide students with an experience equivalent to an introductory college level physics course. AP Physics B requires a serious commitment from students. This class will be conducted primarily through inquiry based laboratory experiments and problem solving activities, reinforced with class discussion. We will also complete a major project each semester. Students should be prepared to devote a significant amount of time to working on problem sets, writing lab reports, and working on projects outside of class. Students may take AP Physics B as a first or second year course. It is expected that students taking this course will have strong algebra skills.
